Single Parent Adoption
Many single parents adopt children privately or from the U.S. foster care system as well as from other countries. In this section you will find resources on single-parent adoption.
Some families may be subject to more public scrutiny if family members differ from "traditional" families or when adopted people are of a different race, culture, or ethnicity than one or both of their adoptive parents. These families may face some unique challenges as children, youth, and young adults search their identity.
Many different types of families adopt. Find resources for specific types of adoptive families, including single parents, families formed by second-parent adoption, families with stepparents, transracial/transcultural families, kinship or relative families, military families, foster families and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) families. Any of these families may adopt a child of a different race or culture from themselves, thus also becoming transracial/transcultural families.
Same Sex Couples
Many gay and lesbian families adopt children domestically as well as through intercountry adoption. In this section you will find information and resources regarding adoption by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) families.
